Privacy policy

The short version: this site collects as little as possible, sells nothing, and uses no advertising trackers. Subscribing to the newsletter is optional and needs your confirmation.
01What’s collected
When you use the contact form, your name, email and message are sent to me via Netlify Forms. When you subscribe to the newsletter, your name, email address and the page you signed up on are collected through Netlify Forms. This site also uses Google Analytics to record page views and a few interactions (outbound clicks, searches, button clicks such as newsletter signups) so I can see which essays are read. It sets cookies and sends your IP address (anonymised) to Google. You can opt out with a content blocker or Google’s browser add-on.
02How it’s used
Contact details are used only to reply to you. Messages are deleted after twelve months unless we’re still in conversation.
Newsletter details are used only to email you the newsletter. After you confirm by email, your name and address are stored with Resend, the service that sends it. Netlify keeps the original signup record. Every issue has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing stops all further emails, and I delete your details from Resend on request. If you never confirm, the address is never added to the mailing list.
03Your rights
You can ask to see or delete anything you’ve sent, including your newsletter subscription, by writing via the contact page.
